Bailiffs - types, authority and jurisdiction
There are various types of bailiffs in the UK who have very different authorities to act, as listed below...
Certificated Bailiffs (sometimes known as private bailiffs)
These can carry out Distress Warrants for commercial rent or debt recovery, court fines or court issued arrest warrants and are authorised to operate only in England and Wales.
County Court Bailiffs
Are civil servants employed by the courts. They execute warrants issued by the County Court for judgement defaults.
All rivington associates' bailiffs are certificated by a district judge in the County Court. They carry court authorised identification at all times and hold an insurance bond of £10,000, issued by Zurich GSG Insurance. All bailiffs have a proven track record and are diligent, determined and discreet.
